I know I have been absent the past week or so, but I just wanted to make a post about what is going on with viperROM and my other Android projects.
Info about Me: I am on a mini-vacation (flew down to FL yesterday) and I will be here until late Tuesday. I won’t be working on much Android related stuff because I just need some time to unwind and relax. School and work has been really crazy for me recently and I just need a break for a few days. When I return, school will be over and I will have more time to dedicate to Android!
viperROM for HTC EVO 3D: You guys have been getting alot of attention from me recently and I have had a great group of testers helping me out. We are one build away from what will be viperROM Redline v2.1 with some new enhancements and even better battery life! This is my first priority when I get back to work on my Android stuff (and maybe I will spend a little bit of time with my E3D in the next few days and get the update out, wouldn’t take too long).
viperROM for Samsung Epic 4G Touch: I know that my ROM is “out of date” now with EK02 out, but the current build is still very solid. I do have the new base done and it’s just a matter of moving over everything from the previous build to the new one and doing some testing (which I will need some good testers for!) The next release will probably be called “Redline” to keep in line with my other ROMs and will feature more tweaks, improved battery life, and improved speed. Good things are coming, please just give me some time.
ICS for the Samsung Epic 4G Touch: I have not been putting in too much effort on this because of how crazy my life has been (read the “Info about Me” section if you didn’t already). I did not forget about this at all, I would love to get this done ASAP but after a talk with codeworkx and SteadyHawkin, it seems the best path is to get CM7 fully working on the E4GT first because that makes the transition to ICS much, much easier. I know bubby has been working on CM and I hope that we can all come together in the upcoming weeks and make some real progress on CM7/AOSP/ICS.
viperMOD LoS Checker: I am no longer support this MOD for a variety of reasons – 1) I have enough Android work to work on as it is. 2) I hope that with the EK02 update this will no longer be needed. And 3) XDA member trifthen has created a nice new version based off of my original LoS Checker. More information can be found here and he seems to offer great support! I highly encourage you to check it out!
viperMOD Voltage Control: I know this has been a WIP for like 6 months now, but my friend Ben who is doing pretty much all the work on the app has been very busy with work, family, and life in general. Android should always take a backseat to those things and, therefore, when there is more time available more progress will be made on vMVC. The app is in its final stages and is nearing completion, it’s just the last 5-10% of work that seems to take the longest but I don’t see this being too much longer.
Other Android Info: I purchased the HTC EVO View tablet today from http://1saleaday.com/ and I do intend to create viperROM for it as well! With the holidays and everything approaching, I don’t know when I will get this but I am very excited to start development on it! I also will be getting the Asus Transformer Prime when it comes out, but, I do not know if I will develop for it – atleast initially. I know that there are some very talented devs that have the current Transformer that plan to get the Prime and I’m sure the quality of their work will be the same as it is now. Truth be told, I don’t even run my own ROM on my current Transformer because I use Revolver and it has been the only ROM my TF has ever seen and I know my future Prime is already looking forward to a dose of Revolver! When ICS comes to the Prime, that might be a different story. Honeycomb just doesn’t interest me much but ICS sure does!
Supporting Other Devices: I have gotten a few requests from people about bringing viperROM to other devices (T-Mo SGS2, Rezound, Epic, just to name a few) and I have given everyone the same answer and I would like to reiterate it here as well… I believe in putting out a solid product that I am proud to put my name on. I am not the best Dev out there, many are more talented than me, but with the work that I do, I do the best that I can. For me to release a ROM for a devices, I need to thoroughly test my work and try everything multiple times and then try to break my ROM. This isn’t a fast or easy process. If you would like me to support a device, I will happily do so, but, I NEED to have access to the device. I will not do what others do and make a ROM for every device, I’m all about quality not quantity. I don’t expect to keep it (although that would really help to continue support on the ROM) but just being able to use it and test with it during the development of a ROM and after the ROM (for user support) is essential for me.
I know this was a long post, but I hope that it fills in everyone on any questions that they may have had. As always, hit me up on Twitter if you have more questions or anything, I try to respond to everyone.
